They hide additional software in 'Custom', 'Advanced', and other similar settings/options of the set-ups. Generally, information about additionally-included apps is not properly disclosed, however, PUAs cannot be downloaded or installed without people first giving permission. How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

Software should be downloaded from official (trustworthy) websites.
